Since its creation, our teams have collaborated on numerous models for the automotive industry. Laurent Tapie entrusted us with the task of creating the prototype for the new Delage D12.

The automotive designer had been out of business since 1953. Laurent Tapie, with the agreement of the Delage heritage association Les Amis de Delage, has decided to relaunch the activity of this fine French company by creating a brand-new F1-type road-legal vehicle.

Multi Jet Fusion HP and Stereolithography are the two additive manufacturing techniques used to produce the prototype of the new D12 imagined by the co-founder and Friends of Delage.

Multi Jet Fusion, a printing technique corresponding to powder sintering, was used to produce not only the interior of the vehicle, but also the cockpit chassis of this two-seater. We recommend this printing technology in particular for functional prototypes, as HP Multi Jet Fusion produces parts in 0.8 mm layers for maximum detail. To be faithful to the final product, we colored the parts in black, as the parts are charcoal gray when they come out of the machine. HP Multi Jet Fusion is the fastest printing technique in terms of machine time, which enabled us to carry out numerous tests with the brand on the various parts produced, notably the cockpit and dashboard.

Stereolithography was used to design detailed elements on the vehicle. In particular, Accura Clearvue was used in conjunction with Jet Metal metallization to create all the logos and other chrome parts that identify the brand, such as the Delage logo or the D12 logo. Jet Metallization is one of Axis’ proudest finishes, because it’s with this process that we’re able to produce plastic parts with a true-to-life metallization.

The new D12 was presented to potential buyers in December. The latter features a 900 hp V12 engine with a 330 hp hybrid electric drive unit. The aim for Laurent Tapie and Les Amis de Delage is to put the spotlight back on the French brand, and, if the D12 is a success, to continue the momentum and design new Made in France vehicles.
